About
Our May tasting is a return to Port and Sherry, whether consumed neat or in a light cocktail, these fortified wines have a place at most times of the day. Maybe not first thing in the morning but, saying that, who’s for a dash of Gentleman’s Relish with a crisp Fino? Sherry: Aperitif, digestive or pudding wine, dry, medium or sweet. Sherry is now a truly multigenerational drink, over ice at a party, or a glass with the local vicar or your investment advisor. Light Fino, aged Olorosso or Palo Cortado, or a rich PX, the choice is yours. Even the archetypal Harvey’s Bristol Cream is as popular as ever. Port: Times have moved on from Port and Lemon in an East End pub, or a glass in a smoke filled room accompanied by a Romeo y Julieta Churchill cigar. France has the highest consumption of Port wine in the world, at 25%, but you are more likely to drink it as an appetitive rather than an after dinner drink. Please join the AWBS for a tasting of the many different styles of these fortified wines.
